Russia’s strongman suddenly starts to look weak

In an opinion editorial in The Times author, Victor Sebestyen, comments that Russia’s strongman is suddenly starting to look weak. Apparently the decision to charge Pussy Riot with “hooliganism,” a favourite Soviet era standby against dissidents, was taken at the highest level in the Kremlin. The trial and the likelihood of jailing the three performers makes the regime look foolish and fragile. Confident men with black belts cannot seriously be worried by girl bands with names like Pussy Riot. Only those who sense they are in some trouble would be bothered.
