Putin will not want to end up like Mubarak

In an opinion editorial in The Times Tony Brenton, a former British Ambassador to Moscow, argues that President Vladimir Putin will not want to end up like Hosni Mubarak, the former President of Egypt. As Putin reoccupies his splendid first- floor Kremlin office he will be very conscious that the forces that over the past two decades have dragged so many other middle-income countries into the democratic camp now have Russia firmly in their grip. He will not want to end his career, as Nicholas II did, standing in the face of history.
