Kremlin's Populism Won't Boost GDP

In an opinion editorial in The Moscow Times political analyst Georgy Bovt says that the Kremlin's populism will not boost Russia’s GDP. The article says the public is being drawn into a discussion of irrelevant problems that will do nothing to resolve the far more pressing need for economic and social development. Yet behind this thick cloud of populism and demagoguery, there is not even a hint of a clear strategy for developing the country. The most important question that needs to be posed directly to lawmakers is how the battle against homosexuals, US adoptive parents and foreign agents will help Russia diversify its economy and boost its GDP.
