Kremlin Running Out of Options as Protests Grow

In an opinion editorial in The Moscow Times Vladimir Frolov, president of LEFF Group, says the Kremlin is running out of palatable options to neutralise the continuing street protests in Moscow. Instead of looking for ways to accommodate some of the protesters' demands, the Kremlin has preferred an in-your-face approach. The State Duma's already damaged legitimacy was completely erased by bizarre bills, while proposals for early elections were dismissed out of hand. The strategy is to create a huge moral and political divide within society and the elites. The Kremlin’s approach runs counter to President Vladimir Putin's campaign promises of stability, unity and moral cohesion. It should be abandoned before it's too late.
